BREAKING: Public scoping for proposed LNG terminal in Mariveles, CANCELLED!

STRIKE THREE FOR SAMAT LNG — The Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) has cancelled SAMAT LNG's public scoping for a proposed LNG terminal in Mariveles, Bataan.

This is the third time that AFAB has cancelled SAMAT LNG’s public scoping activity due to the proponent’s failure to comply to the DENR AO NO. 15-17 (Guidelines on Public Participation under the Environmental Impact Statement System).

The Philippine Movement for Climate Justice (PMCJ), Sanlakas, Nuclear and Coal Free Bataan Movement, and residents of Brgy. Sisiman pushed for the cancellation of all three public scoping activities, citing the proponent’s non-compliance of environmental laws. While the cancellation is a welcome development, the stakeholders have previously expressed that only the Fossil Gas project’s cancellation would be best for the community and the environment.
